Firewall/clutch problems on 86 F-250 by 1986f250 Jan 15, 2001 (08:42 am) I recently bought an 86 F-250 and developed problems with the clutch. I have been told this model has a single layer of sheet metal in the firewall. When the clutch is pushed in, the firewall flexes and doesn't disengage the clutch.

I'm looking for a truck to tow a gooseneck horse trailer with a GVWR of 6080. I think I want an F-250 Super Duty, extended cab, 4X4, manual transmission, gas engine. The truck won't be used more than about 1,000 miles per year for short trips (less than 50 miles each) so I don't think I want a deisel.Any arguements there?

In reference to problems with the 2001 F-250 Ford Truck with the 7.3 Power Stroke Diesel engine; our truck, after several years of dependable service, began to stall and shutdown while driving down the highway. Normally the truck would not start until it set a while, etc. (10, 15, 30 minutes) and sometimes for several hours or more.

I'm on my third diesel F250. This one is a super cab and 8' bed. I use my truck much like you are planning to do. I have the 7.3L auto and 3.73 rear (LS). Right now diesel and unleaded are running about the same here in LA, $1.66. In the LA traffic mess I usually get in the mid sixteens to low seventeens.

I have a 2000 F250 Diesel that has had the alternator replaced three years ago and the batteries 3.5 years. The red battery light stays on but the gauge shows the system is charging. I switched alternators with a 2001 diesel Excursion and the light stayed on. I then switched out the batteries and the light stayed on.
