Football has long been a staple of Thanksgiving Day celebrations, and this year there will be three National Football League games on the holiday and one on Black Friday to watch. Shortly after the league's formation in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (it was renamed the NFL in 1922),

Prior to those games, a coin featuring a silhouette of coach Madden on one side (“Heads”) and a six-legged turducken on the reverse side (“Tails”) will be used for the coin toss. Additionally, a patch featuring a silhouette of coach Madden will be included on the jersey of each player at all three games.

In between doses of turkey-borne tryptophan and the resulting food comas, NFL fans can watch three football games throughout the day on Thanksgiving. As is tradition, the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys will each host their own game on Turkey Day.
