The smash hit Wicked movie shatters a major all-time domestic box office record that has been held for more than four and a half decades.

The latest updates on Wicked box office sales show that the movie continues to break records, enter all-time rankings, and has already reached the no. 1 spot in certain categories.

Instead of lounging on the couch after Thanksgiving, Americans headed to movie theaters, as the premiere of Disney’s “Moana 2” and the draw of “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” provided a big boost to the domestic box office.

Moana 2 has beaten both Wicked and Gladiator II at the box office over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend. Per Deadline, Moana 2 made $135.5 million during its opening weekend; although, the movie technically opened on Wednesday and therefore made $221 million during its five-day opening Thanksgiving weekend.

Yesterday, Moana 2 led at the domestic box office with $5.7M, -83% from Sunday, taking its domestic to $231.2M. By the way, Universal’s Wicked wasn’t far behind with $5.5M, -72% from Sunday, for a running total of $268.8M.

Moviegoers have plenty to be thankful for after this holiday weekend box office — especially those who love a good musical. The animated film reunites Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho) and her demigod ally Maui (Dwayne Johnson) three years after the events of the first film,

The film has broken numerous box office records, including the biggest five-day opening of all time, plus the biggest Thanksgiving weekend (three-day and five-day) release, as well as the biggest Thanksgiving release and the biggest Black Friday release.

Moana 2 is going far, and bringing the rest of the box office along with it. After breaking a record for the Thanksgiving box office, the Disney sequel led the whole box office to break yet another record on Sunday.
