Alabama A&M university mistakenly announced the death of one of its football players – before backtracking and confirming that he is very much still alive. The school’s athletics team wrongly declared on Wednesday that Medrick Burnett Jr, 20, had died weeks after he was seriously injured during a game.

An Alabama A&M University football student-athlete has died following an injury sustained at a game back in October. The university took to socials Wednesday to make the devastating announcement, saying Medrick Burnett Jr. passed away Tuesday night. Burnett received a head injury after a collision at a game against Alabama State on Oct. 26.
